Primary Education & Middle School

We follow the Guatemalan curriculum and continually focus on teacher development. The curriculum includes literacy, mathematics, arts, science, language, technology and life-skills. Our aim is to develop students' learning, problem-solving, communication and social skills so they can access opportunities for rewarding employment.

Student character development is a key part of our curriculum through clubs, school values and restorative conflict resolution. We also have a Student Government and a Parent Leadership Group. Both groups aim to increase school identity and promote active student and family involvement.

Our special education programme supports around 40 students with physical disabilities and special educational needs. We provide one-to-one sessions including educational psychology and speech therapy.

After School Clubs at The School of Hope in Guatemala, Central America EFTC

We provide many after-school clubs such as gardening, dance and soccer to open up new experiences for our students and strengthen leadership, identity and teamwork. We've established long standing partnerships in Guatemala who assist us in service delivery.

Empowering minds and decision making

  • The informative workshops empower students and discuss attitudes, values and beliefs. They allow participants to recognize, resist and respond to unhealthy behaviors and challenge prejudices.

They aim to reduce teenage pregnancy rates, STIs and sexual abuse.

In a country where such conversations are often taboo, the goal is to develop skills that will enable young people to be informed and make their own decisions.

  • Reading A to Z provides high-quality, e-books with 29 levels of text complexity.

The School of Hope is more technologically equipped than many other public schools and private schools in the region which enables us to harness such technology based learning to improve both literacy availability and assessment.

  • Falling in love with reading is so much more than learning to read. We ensure our students encounter diverse literary texts that enrich their vocabulary and enable them to think critically.

This method of study improves their thinking way beyond the curriculum. The skills learned are transferable in the way they communicate and articulate the reasoning behind their thoughts and actions.
