New members join our dedicated team!

22/01/2021

Despite the recent government announcement that schools will remain closed until March/ April, our determined staff in Guatemala will continue to use their creativity to give our students the best education possible. Reading books, textbooks and school supplies are being distributed to students at home and teachers will use online groups to share content and resources where possible. Our staff will continue to keep in regular contact with students and their families via phone calls to help them with remote learning and to remind them that they are not alone.

We have 3 new teachers joining the School of Hope who have already fitted into the community with ease. They have hit the ground running with fresh ideas and energy to keep students engaged in their education.

Welcome to the team:

Glendy Marisol

Miss Marisol is in charge of two grades: 1st and 4th grade. She is teaching math, science, social studies, language and communication. With three years of experience in and outside of Jocotenango she is truly a professional. She loves her job and her favorite part is reconnecting with her inner child. For Marisol this is so important, when she teaches having fun is key to creating an excellent classroom environment.

Lízbeth Xiomara

Miss Lizbeth is our new 4th grade teacher, she teaches math and science. She has 5 years of experience in another educational NGO, where she even built houses for her students. She has all of the requirements to know how to give the students the best learning experience. She studying teaching at university and loves it so much!

Maira Isabel

Miss Maira is our newest high school teacher. She is teaching science in 7th and 8th grade, and she is leading a new "Entrepreneurship" course for our 9th graders. For her, teaching is all about learning new techniques and having fun. She travels far from another town to get to work, so she is always in the school hall early in the morning wearing a lot of sweaters, like a cute bear!

Stephanie Zea

We would also like to welcome our new Communications Coordinator Stephanie ‘Tephie’ to the Foundation team in Guatemala. She has been busy working with our communications team in the UK to keep you updated on our latest news.

Tephie loves working with kids and was an elementary teacher for 6 years before joining EFTC! Her skills and experience in videography and storytelling are crucial to helping us share the stories of our students so our community around the world feels connected to The School of Hope. She brings a wealth of NGO, marketing and communications experience to the team as well as a huge smile!

We are confident that with a fantastic team in place, we can rise to any challenges 2021 throws in our way!
