José Ángel, the entrepreneurial student who started his own business

24/06/2016

José Ángel is one of our young entrepreneurs, a hard working student of Business Administration who runs his own Internet Cafe and dreams of becoming a successful businessman.

José Ángel joined the Foundation when his father died, leaving behind his mother and three children. The financial situation at home became very unstable and he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to continue studying. "That's when I entered the Foundation, and I found the support I needed to keep working on making my dreams come true".

He was able to join the School of Hope during middle school and became a scholarship student soon after, successfully graduating from high school. But José Angel didn’t want to stop there, he was determined to go on to university and at 22 he’s studying a Bachelor in Business Administration.

I’m always trying to learn new things,” he says, smiling, “either about business, technology or entrepreneurship, that’s why I attend every workshop I can!

He became an entrepreneur when the opportunity presented itself: “there was an Internet Cafe for sale. It was a challenge because I couldn’t afford it, but luckily the seller understood that and agreed to sell it in installments. I took the opportunity keeping in mind what a huge responsibility it was, and a year later I’m still in business and hoping to pay off my debt soon to finally start generating a good income.

José Ángel also took part in the Lead-Up International workshops, which aim to reduce violence in the community by forming peaceful leaders through lessons learned from horses. José Ángel benefitted by discovering the positive consequences of assertive yet peaceful leadership, and gained new skills that help him everyday. When asked about his goals, he shares: "my dream is to become a businessman to be able to help my family, my community and my country’s economy."
