“I need to get very creative with the menu because we have a limited variety of food available. Working here inspires me to do my best for the students, I’m very thankful for this opportunity.” Erick - Head of school kitchen
Chef Erick tempts our student with the tastiest, healthy meals and in recent months has become an instrumental project manager for our emergency food hamper programme.
Our nutrition programme is integral to our overall success as a school. 50% of children in Guatemala suffer malnutrition which has a catastrophic impact on their health, stunting growth and impeding development. It is widely known that undernourishment and iron deficiency have long lasting effects into adulthood (World Food Programme).
We provide all students at the School of Hope with nutritious school meals and snacks throughout the day. For many children, the school meals will be the only food they eat all day. We also run workshops with parents on the importance of nutrition at home including where to source affordable, healthy produce.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis we are currently supplying all of our families with regular food hampers.
