The Independence Day Parade

15th September 2008

Independence Day is a big deal in Guatemala and all of the children got involved this year, dressing up in a massive variety of costumes.

There were children in traditional dress as well as devils, flowers, and every animal under the sun.

The parade also celebrated the different ethnic groups in Guatemala, pictured right.

Meet Miss Esperanza!

The school threw a Miss Esperanza competition ("Miss Hope") in September and Brenda Fabiola Corado Avila was pronounced the winner!

Brenda is in the second year of our High School Segundo Basico and models traditional mayan clothing in this photograph.

When it rains it pours!

We are glad to say that the rainy season is coming to an end. This year was incredibly wet which causes no end of problems for the children who live in particularly bad housing.

Debbie Wright visited the project in July and generously donated raincoats to every single child.

Thanks Debbie, the children are warm and dry thanks to you.
