On Sunday 8th August 2010, Shaun Wright-Phillips hosted his annual Harley Davidson Charity Bike Ride

Around 15 people took part in the ride, which started at WARRS, a Harley-Davidson dealership, and finished at the beautiful 'Sanctum on the Green' in Berkshire, via a brunch stop-off at Ace Cafe in Wembley. Various media outlets covered the event including the local news station and SoccerAM.

Among the celebs involved was X Factor Ray Quinn who had his very first go at riding a Harley trike.

We are still collecting sponsorship, so if you want to sponsor Shaun, click here to donate on the Justgiving page.

A huge thank you to Shaun and Dionne for organising the day and continuing to help the children in Guatemala by raising money and keeping EFTC in the public eye!

On 4th August 2010, The Maze hosted a Band Night for EFTC

The Maze, a live music venue on Mansfield Road, Nottingham, was the venue for our first Band Night, which featured music from some great local bands with genres ranging from indie, ska, and punk to blues, acoustic guitar and gypsy jazz.

A successful and enjoyable evening was had by all and £250 was raised, through tickets and a raffle. Many thanks to The Maze and to those who attended - we are hopeful of making this a regular event happening every 3 months, so look out for the next date.

Join us on the challenge of a lifetime... climb 3 volcanoes in Guatemala in 3 days

In 2010, eleven volunteers climbed 3 volcanoes in 3 days in Guatemala and raised £34,000 for EFTC.

We are going to take on this enormous challenge once again in 2011... and we need you to sign up!

The challenge involves climbing three volcanoes (of which two are active!) in three days and camping on the volcanic slopes. You will trek to altitudes of 4000 metres, come up close to molten lava, and see some of the most breath taking views. The challenge will be one of the hardest but most rewarding things that you ever take on! With a little training and a lot of determination, anyone can manage this challenge so please please get in touch.

The trek runs from 22nd to 24th January 2011. There will be plenty of opportunity to meet the children of our project as the challenge will coincide with the opening of our new school. Our base will be La Antigua, a beautiful colonial town, which is nearby to the school and two of the volcanoes can be seen from here.

On 2 August 2010, Tommy Johnson hosted our annual golf day at Erewash Valley Golf Course.

There was a team stableford event around the tree-lined course, as well as a chipping and putting competition.

We raised £5,450 and our thanks go to each member of the 19 teams that played, those who donated raffle and auction prizes and to Erewash Valley Golf Course.

Photographs taken on the day by professional photographer Lyndsey James are available for viewing and purchase through her website http://www.lyndsey-james.co.uk/event-erewash-golf-day/. The code needed to access these is 020810. £2 from each photo bought will come to EFTC - thank you to Lyndsey for this gesture.

EFTC attended two music festivals during the summer of 2010 to raise some funds.

A team of 19 attended the Isle of Wight Festival on 11th - 13th June 2010 and raised £2,700 by selling plastic bottles to festivals goers as they entered the arena to help keep the festival free from broken glass.

A 10-strong team made the long trip to T in the Park in Scotland and braved some not so nice weather. Over 9th - 11th July, we raised £730 by selling raffle tickets, face painting and asking people to put their hand print next to those of the children in our project, to promote the motto "hand in hand we can break the poverty cycle".

Thank you to everyone who helped over the weekends.
