In 2009 the Guatemalan Government declared that education should be made free to all.
Although this is great news, the country currently does not have the infrastructure in place to provide education to everyone. Shortage of schools, overcrowded classrooms plus the cost of books, uniforms and food means that for many families education is still be an impossibility.
Our project continues to fill a gap for the poorest section of the community and it is clear that we are still very much needed. We will continue to be involved in helping Guatemala to provide free education for all and we hope that the Guatemalan Government will begin to help more of the poorest sectors of the community.
